Dr. Gurman, a native of New York City, is the senior associate of Blair Orthopedic Associates & Sports Medicine.
Dr. Gurman is a graduate of Syracuse University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. He earned his medical degree from the State University of New York, Upstate Medical Center in 1980. Dr. Gurman served his internship and residency in orthopedic surgery at the Montefiore Hospital / Albert Einstein Medical Center in New York City. He then was the Fellow in Hand Surgery at the Hospital of Joint Diseases Orthopedic Institute, also in New York City. Dr. Gurman is certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery and holds a Certificate in Added Qualifications in Surgery of the Hand. His professional expertise includes surgery of the hand and elbow, and joint replacements.
In 2007, Dr. Gurman was elected Vice Speaker of the House of Delegates of the American Medical Association. Dr. Gurman is a Past-President of the Blair County Medical Society and continues to be active in the Pennsylvania Medical Society.
He resides in Hollidaysburg, PA with his wife and two daughters. Dr. and Mrs. Gurman are active in numerous community organizations including the American Cancer Society, Altoona Symphony, United Way and the Blair County Arts Foundation.
